Aloysius Pang in serious condition, undergoes another surgery

Aloysius Pang is in a critical condition, said the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) in a statement today.

According to MINDEF authorities, Pang’s condition is “critical and he is being managed in the intensive care unit,” they said.

The 28-year-old actor was injured Saturday while he was carrying out repairs inside a Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer, a motorized piece of artillery that looks similar to a small tank.

“Dr Teo Li Tserng, the Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, arrived in New Zealand on Tuesday morning. He is working with the medical team at Waikato Hospital, where Pang is being treated.

In a statement, MINDEF assured the public that the “Ministry of Defense and the Singapore Armed Forces continue to provide support to Pang’s family.”

Pang was on reservist training when the accident took place on Saturday at about 2pm Singapore time. The actor sustained chest injuries and some damage in the abdominal area while he was carrying out repair works inside a Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer. He underwent abdominal surgery at Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, and was placed in a high dependency unit.

The ministry described Pang as an “Operationally Ready National Serviceman” indicating that he had completed his full-time service. It described him as an armament technician and his rank as corporal first class.

Pang, the actor

Born on August 24, 1990 in Singapore as Wei Chong Pang, he is known for C.L.I.F. (2011), The Truth Seekers (2016) and Young & Fabulous (2016).

A former child star, Pang was thrust to fame after he won Best Newcomer at Mediacorp’s Star Awards in 2015. He was in a few Channel 8 dramas and is now signed on to Noontalk Media, co-founded by his friend, actor, television host and radio DJ, Dasmond Koh.

Pang, the entrepreneur

Together with his brothers, he has started a green start-up named Kairos Green. The start-up aims to sell eco-friendly wood-plastic composite products, which can be found in flooring to doors and windows.
