Singaporean e-racing team now recruiting new members

E-sports enthusiasts now have the chance to represent Singapore in a major competition.

After last year’s successful inauguration, the Legion of Racers (LOR) are on the lookout for talented drivers to be part of their team. The LOR is currently open to applicants for this year’s season starting May 20, 2019 until Sept 2019.

The Legion of Racers is Singapore’s first simulation racing league that combines the best in motor-sport and gaming worlds.

Registration for schools will commence in May and June. For the general public, the LOR will be doing a series of online tournaments leading up to Gamestart. The finalist of the Campus Legends and online rounds will be invited to Gamestart 2019 which will serve as the final round of the Legion of Racers 2019 season.

The top three racers in Gamestart will be given e-sports and training and be awarded part-time internship contracts at Legion of Racers.

The top racers also have the opportunity to represent Singapore in major e-sport competitions such as the F1 Esports Championship and the Gran Tursimo Championship.

On April 29, the Legion of Racers officially launched the 2019 season and started the hunt for Singapore’s fastest e-gamers in simulation racing. The LOR is supported by partners from BenQ, Logitech, Singapore Cybersports Online Gaming Association (SCOGA), Monster and 9tro.

LOR co-founder Lim Keong Wee, stated that “It is our hope that the last one year of outreach to the SIM racing community and community at large will have more young drivers come forward to be part of the Legion of Racers.”

The LOR in partnership with SCOGA will also be bringing SIM racing to the tertiary schools in Singapore during the Campus Legends and Gamestart programmes.

In 2018, the top three drivers who emerged from the competition are now professional e-sports athletes. They are Ar Muhammad Aleef, Jaden Low, and Jason Tay. Melvin Moh, a co-founder of LOR who is also an AMG Driving Academy instructor, provided go-kart training to help the athletes develop as SIM drivers.
