Ex-Mediacorp Deputy Chief Editor becomes DPM Heng’s press secretary

Veteran broadcast journalist and editor Farah Abdul Rahim has been appointed as Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat’s new press secretary. Ms Rahim took on the role, last month.

Ms Rahim started out as a Senior Broadcast Journalist with Mediacorp in 1999, where she remained until 2007. From 2007 to 2009, Ms Rahim was with a Public Relations firm before she moved to the public service in Feb 2009.

For over five years from Feb 2009, Ms Rahim served as Director of Corporate Communications in the Ministry of Manpower and press secretary to then-Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong and his successor Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

From 2014 to 2015, Ms Rahim worked as a coordinating director at the Public Service Division before she moved on to the Ministry of Communications and Information, where she served as a senior director.

Ms Rahim became press secretary once again in 2015, when she served Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic & Social Policies under the Prime Minister’s Office for three years.

Ms Rahim then returned to Mediacorp and headed the PSD office besides completing her tasks as Deputy Chief Editor of Current Affairs for about one year.

Last month, she stepped out of Mediacorp once again and became Mr Heng’s press secretary.

Mr Heng, who is also Finance Minister, was once a press secretary himself to Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. He is now widely expected to become Singapore’s next Prime Minister, after Mr Lee’s son and current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong relinquishes his post.
