Apple axes the 12-inch MacBook

With all the new upgrades to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines, nobody noticed that the 12-inch MacBook has been discontinued on the Apple online store.

Featuring a USB-C function, butterfly keyboard and the first Mac laptop without a glowing Apple logo in years, it was first introduced in 2015.

In 2016, the MacBook Pro was updated and MacBook Air followed suit in 2018 with controversial changes set out by the 12-inch MacBook.

Fans miss the SD card slots and USB-A ports that are available on other MacBooks and the butterfly keyboard redesign was a disaster.

Apple was going to stick to the design trends introduced with the 12-inch MacBook but there are talks that indicate that the next generation of MacBook Pro will come with a new, more traditional keyboard design with deeper travel.

It seems like the right time to do away with the 12-inch MacBook.

Last fall, the long-overdue refresh of the MacBook Air made the MacBook a bit of an outlier as it was thinner and lighter than any computer in the company’s lineup but its internals were severely underpowered.

MacBook has been relegated to niche status and for those who want portable devices were better off looking at the iPad Pro lineup.

Apple had the 13-inch MacBook and the 11-inch MacBook, making an 12-inch redundant.

Currently in the online store there is still the Apple MacBook Air Retina, MacBook Pro in 13-inch and 15-inch.
