Ho Ching shares article on cutting ties with toxic family members

Chief executive officer of Temasek Holdings and wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Ho Ching, known to be rather active on social media and Facebook, yesterday shared a post that caught the attention of many.

Ho Ching shared an article titled; ‘Here’s why sometimes it is okay to cut ties with toxic family members’.

The article was about toxic family relationships and how “You can’t choose the family you’re born into, but you certainly have the choice to distance yourself from them if they’re toxic and they’re only causing you pain”.

It also explained the top five reasons to cut ties with toxic family members.

Ironically (or not), there has been an ongoing family feud between the siblings of the Lee family regarding the house of late Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

In 2017, the two younger siblings Lee Hsien Yang and Lee Wei Ling reiterated their father’s wish for the family house at Oxley Road to be demolished immediately after his death.

Earlier this year (May 15), Lee Wei Ling also wrote in a Facebook post that, “Papa was led by Loong to believe that Oxley Road had been “gazetted” by the government. This was the background to Loong’s insistence that Papa should change his will to give Oxley Road to Loong alone. Indeed, Pa wrote to his lawyer Kwa Kim Li of Lee & Lee, on 6 Sep 2012 saying “Although it has been gazetted as a Heritage house it is still mine as owner.” Pa also said “But the house is still mine and I can in my will give Ling the right to stay on in the house.”

Furthermore, a 500-page complaint was filed by the Attorney General-Chambers (AGC) against Lee Suet Fern, the wife of Lee Hsien Yang, alleging “professional misconduct” in relation to her preparation of the late Mr Lee’s final will.

Lee Hsien Yang’s eldest son, Li Shengwu, also came under fire in 2018 over a private Facebook post, causing him to be held in contempt of court.

Netizens who commented on Ho Ching’s Facebook post made general remarks.
