Facebook’s new dating service features a “Secret Crush” list

Since Facebook launched more than a decade ago, people have long used the app to search for and meet not just friends but also potential romantic interests. Now, Facebook is not just a social networking site but an official dating service as well.

Despite the numerous data breaches and privacy controversies, Facebook recently launched its own dating service on Thursday (Sept 5) in the United States.

The new Facebook dating profile can be integrated with users’ Instagram accounts to create the “Secret Crush” list.

The feature allows users to add their Facebook friends and Instagram followers in their “Secret Crush” list. If the friend tags them in their personal list as well, the two users are notified about the mutual romantic interest.

Facebook Dating is reportedly optional for users aged 18 and above, and their dating activity will not be made public on the profile or news feed.

It appears as a separate tab on the app’s user interface. The company claims that the service is free and has no in-app purchases.

However, the company warns that users “interact with other users at [their] own risk” since Facebook does not currently conduct background checks on the users that sign up.

Facebook Dating is also available in Singapore, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Suriname, Thailand, Uruguay, and Vietnam. –/TISG
