After 37 years serving customers, Toa Payoh Bak Chor Mee passing the torch to any new owner interested to take over, secret recipes for sale at S$500K

Yet another hawker stall has experienced stumbling blocks with keeping the business within the family.

The owner of Lai Heng Mushroom Minced Meat Mee at Block 73 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh has decided to pass on the legacy because no one in the family could take over.

Lee Hwee Peng, 63, operates Lai Heng, known for its classic bak chor mee, which often sees long queues due to its popularity.

Various family members also pitch in to help run the stall.

According to Mr Lee’s niece Zheng Lishan, 49, her uncle was experiencing kidney and heart problems.

His condition allows him to work only two to three hours a day.

Meanwhile, she and her cousin had no plans to take over the stall, said Ms Cheng to Chinese language newspaper Shin Min Daily News.

8 Days also reported that Mr Lee’s daughters with office jobs aren’t keen on taking over the business.

It was reported that Ms Zheng was taking medication for her inflamed wrist and shoulders, while other family members were suffering from various physical ailments.

She admitted they were reluctant to leave the stall to other people, but the family’s health was more important.

In a pinned Facebook post, Lai Heng announced it was looking to pass on the ownership.

“After 37 years of serving our loyal customers, we have decided to pass the torch to new owners who are equally as passionate to serving our customers.”

Meanwhile, the stall will continue operations until it is sold. /TISG
