Man snatches altar offerings from HDB corridor, but ‘At least he asked God for permission, lol’ — Netizen

A man caught on camera swiping some fruit off an altar but offering a prayer before leaving the scene has gone viral.

“At least he asked the God for permission, lol,” wrote TikTok user Melvin Chew who shared the video of the incident which happened on Sept 11.

The video started with the man passing by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) corridor and noticing some fruit offerings on the prayer altar.

He grabbed an apple, bowed his head and appeared to say a short prayer before going on his way.

Shortly after, the man returned to the scene and prayed a little longer before taking all the fruits from the altar.

The video has over 557,000 views and 1,050 comments to date, with netizens finding no fault in the man’s actions because he took the food respectfully.

“Someone so respectful at that level of desperation deserves the food at least,” said a TikTok user.

“Your request approved,” said TikTok user @Foodeaten90, while another netizen said, “let him eat those apples.”

Netizens also pointed out that the offerings being taken and eaten were better than the fruits eventually rotting.

“Think it’s ok to take the food, after all, they must have already been eaten by the deities. My neighbours used to distribute to us after praying,” noted TikTok user @HpChua.

Others wondered if the man was going through hardships, prompting a comment from TikTok user @Delia, who said she would place more food for him and leave a note saying it’s for him if she was the homeowner. /TISG
