Man Criticizes Remote Workers: Claims On-Site Office Work Reflects True Dedication

SINGAPORE: A man took to social media with some rather harsh comments about those remote workers..

In an anonymous post to popular confessions page NUSWhispers, the man wrote that the “only people complaining about actually going to office to work are low ranking, low paid employees who come in and play stupid games on their phone all day anyway”.

He said he led a fulfilling life while coming to office five days a week. He added that after dropping his son off at school, he would always go to office early and stay the full day.

“It’s depressing to see empty workstations all the time, it’s like seeing fish tanks without any fish or bird cages without any birds. Generations of employees have been going to a workplace to work 5 or even 6 days a week, isn’t that just the expectation unless you are purely a subcontractor doing some computer work?”

The man added that working remotely should only be allowed for a select few jobs or for temporary work. “People are so lazy it’s disgusting, so many people don’t deserve their pay. Given how much time people spend on their phones and in toilets while they are supposed to be at work, they ought to be working 6 days a week to be fair to those of us who come in to office regularly 5 full days,” he wrote.

The man added that disciplinary action should be taken against those who complain about working in the office.

A netizen who commented on his post had a different opinion: “I’m not concerned about appearances. I’m only concerned about productivity. If productivity increases while working remote and cutting the company’s expenses, I will do that. If wearing flip flops improves productivity and morale, I will allow it in all circumstances except meeting clients. People who are concerned about productivity and not ritual decorum are the ones who made Microsoft and Sillicon Valley with their more casual appearance but process rigour. On the other hand, emphasis on ritual is a sign of a stagnant and/or dying organization”./TISG
