ST’s Facebook post of President Tan inviting new Thai king to eat KFC confuses netizens

One of the two has got to explain it – either The Straits Times (ST) social media administrator has gone rogue, or someone has hacked the ST widget. But ST’s newsfeed which showed  ‘President Tan invites Thailand’s new king to visit Singapore to eat KFC’ in Facebook, has made some to wonder if the news was indeed published by the mainstream media.

Clicking on the link on Facebook leads to the ST article titled, ‘President Tan conveys best wishes to Thailand’s new King, invites him to visit Singapore‘, and there is no mention of such a bizarre, undiplomatic invitation.

Because of his slightly overweight figure and slicked back silver hair, some netizens have suggested that President Tan looks like the mascot of the restaurant, Colonel Sanders.

Facebook page Wake Up Singapore was among the first to share the ST’s newsfeed as it appeared in Facebook.
Facebook user Bruce Wee in sharing the ST link said: “Straits Times, you can change the heading & picture, but the comments are still there!”

Youtube user Ng Yi Shu have suggested that the headline could have been faked.

Comments on ST’s article as published in its Facebook casts doubts if the headline was indeed faked.
