Why PAP is still a good bet

by Steven Lim

I have been following the online discussions about PM’s message during the annual party conference held recently. I find the online vitriol disheartening. You can’t fault the PM for trying hard and for goodness sake, cut him some slack and stop nitpicking him like some high school bully.

There is so much hatred on Facebook and in the anti establishment sites that my friends and I have stopped subscribing to their feeds.

My point is, PM Lee is groomed for this job, from young through adolescence and adulthood. He has the pedigree, the education and experience to lead this country. There is no one else, certainly none from the opposition who can match his ability.

He also has one of the best finance minister, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratam to assist him. None in the opposition camp has the experience or the wherewithal to run our economy.

I find the opposition’s response to PM Lee’s speech extremely pedantic and immature. Dr Chee tweeted the PM. Whatever for? It was a comic relief and childish to say the least.

How to take the opposition seriously? I was hoping that WP would lead the way and provide some real solutions.  But it seems like they are embroiled in their AHPETC compliance issues and happy to be silent on major issues.

In my opinion, the opposition has not proven itself to manage a town council well or provide workable policy alternatives. How on earth will they manage this country should PAP lose the next General Election?

The opposition is divided, can’t retain talent and likes to take pot shots at the ruling party. They don’t inspire confidence.

Yes, we do have a lot of problems in this country and the question that we need to ask ourselves is whether whoever we put in parliament can serve us effectively. I hope the opposition can maintain their number of seats in the next election.

Deadly fight? I don’t think so. By the looks of it, it may be a deadly blow to the opposition parties.
