Apple offer free repairs for power issues on 2018 MacBook Airs

New owners of the 2018 MacBook Air are entitled to free repairs for the power issues that requires the replacement of the main logic board.

Limited to a small number of models, the issue is identified to “Retina, 13-inch, 2018 MacBook Air models with certain serial numbers,” as quoted by 9to5Mac.

Apple Store and authorised repair staff are instructed to replace logic boards in the qualifying units for free.

The issue has got to do with power and the affected models were not able to be switched on at all.

Usually Apple will list issues on the exchange and repair the extension but this issue has not been listed yet.

For this particular issue, Apple will contact impacted customers directly via email. The repair programme will run for four years while owners of the affected laptops can go to an Apple Store or authorised repair outlet to check.

The Cupertino tech giant has had a number of issues with its laptops recently. Apple recalled 15-inch MacBook Pros with Retina displays built between 2015 and 2017 due to battery issues that caused the laptops to overheat and pose a fire safety risk.

Wired reported that since the beginning of 2018, Apple had launched no less than five repair or recall notices for its laptops including the notorious MacBook keyboard problems, a battery replacement notice and a separate solid state drive replacement programme for some 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units, “Flexgate” display issues, and the aforementioned batteries that posed a fire risk.
