Caltex: Attendant will not have to bear $125 for petrol issue

Last Saturday, a driver refused to pay for his entire bill of $135 of petrol at a Caltex petrol station, after claiming that he had only asked the elderly pump attendant for $10 of petrol, instead of a full tank.

In response, the pump attendant, a man in his 60s, calmly offered to pay the difference of $125.

Facebook user Kelly Yeo, who witnessed the incident, wrote to Caltex Singapore.

She said,

“Instead of creating a scene by engaging in an argument with the customer, the elderly pump attendant calmly informed the Cashier to let the customer pay $10 and he would personally absorb the rest of the cost. As a result, the customer walked away smugly paying a mere $10 payment for a full tank of petrol for his BMW Series 5 vehicle”.

Caltex Singapore responded to Kelly’s post.

Many netizens were outraged at the behaviour of the driver of the vehicle and said that he should have at least offered partial payment since his car would consume the petrol regardless of the error.

Many also offered to foot the petrol bill on behalf of the elderly pump attendant.

Kelly Yeo’s post received more than 1300 shares and 700 comments.
