LHL led LKY to believe that 38 Oxley was gazetted by Government, Wei Ling alleges

Dr Lee Wei Ling has taken to Facebook to allege that her brother Lee Hsien Loong had led their father Lee Kuan Yew to believe that 38 Oxley Road had been gazetted by the government. Number 38, Oxley Road was the residence of Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s founding father, from the 1940s until his death in 2015.

In 2017, its use and demolition became central to a dispute between Lee’s children —  current prime minister Lee Hsien Loong and his two siblings, sister Dr Lee Wei Ling and brother Lee Hsien Yang. Lee Kuan Yew had originally willed the house to Lee Hsien Loong, who had later sold it to his brother Lee Hsien Yang in 2015 at market price, on the condition that both of them would donate half of the value to charity.

Posting in Facebook yesterday (May 15), Dr Lee alleged that the background to PM Lee’s insistence that his father will Oxley Road to him alone, was PM Lee leading his father to believe that his residence had been “gazetted” by the government.

In July 2017, Dr Lee alleged that PM Lee had “made convoluted, but ultimately false, claims about Lee Kuan Yew’s wishes. LHL is trying to suggest that because LKY signed some renovation plans in early 2012, he was open to preservation of the house.”

She added: “From 2010, LHL improperly misrepresented to our father LKY that gazetting of 38 Oxley Road was either “inevitable” or that the house was already gazetted. We now know that no decision had been made. Besides issues of improper representation and conflicts of interest on the part of LHL, this shows that LKY’s “consideration” of “alternatives” to demolition was entirely due to LHL’s representations about the house’s fate.”

Dr Lee then released several email correspondences between her father and his lawyer to back up her claims.

Dr Lee said her younger brother Lee Hsien Yang and her only seek to honour their parents’ wishes, and have nothing else to gain.
