A day after criticising Malaysia Airlines for a flight delay resulting in Malaysia’s Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu missing a meeting with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in London, the minister says the national airline is always in his heart.
He says he bore no ill-will against the national carrier and on the contrary, Malaysia Airlines will always be in his heart.
Mat Sabu, as he is popularly known, flew from Kuala Lumpur on June 15, aboard MH002, scheduled to land in London at 5:55 am the following morning but a flight delay meant he landed in at 8:26 am at Heathrow Airport. The carrier says it was because of a technical issue and apologised to the minister.
On Monday, the Defence Ministry had issued a statement expressing regret for the incident, saying this should not be repeated.
Mohamad was supposed to go to Paris for his working meeting but made a stopover in London just to pay a visit to the Prime Minister.
In the end, the minister seems to hold the carrier with affectionate regard, having been a platinum cardholder for many years.
“Malaysia Airlines is always in my heart. Despite me not being a minister before, I was a Malaysia Airlines platinum card holder because I regularly used this company’s service when flying overseas.”
Mr Mohamad also said that the issue between him and the airliner has been resolved.
“My issue with Malaysia Airlines is settled by way of meeting with their party, and I had also contacted Malaysia Airlines’ chief executive officer Izham Ismail to discuss this matter.”
He insists his loyalty belonged to the carrier. “However, Malaysia Airlines is still my choice for domestic and overseas trips.” . / TISG
