Former PM Najib says he was the target of a sniper

Earlier today, the fallen Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said that he was once the target of a sniper in an incident that took place a year and a half before the 14th general election.

But he said he was not at the targeted area when the shooter took the shot, believing it was a warning to him.

He, who is also the chairman of the Barisan Nasional Advisory Board (BN), said the incident occurred at the Pekan UMNO Office and was not present.

The shooter, he says, had set sights on the room where he operates as the UMNO chief of the Pekan town.

This he says was proof that the the UMNO head in Pekan was the target.

He recounted the incident to an interviewer on a show in which he was a special guest at a forum entitled “Hard Truth: Cash Is King” held at the PWTC or Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

He says he never spoke of this before and that only a few people know about it, adding that he believes the shooter knew he was not at the location at the moment of the shooting.

“They knew I wasn’t there. They didn’t want to kill me. But I know they just wanted to send a warning,” he told reporters.

The video of him telling the story to two reporters is on a YouTube channel called PakDin.

He did not say how many shots the shooter fired but police found the shooter was within 200 meters from the target. The police based its estimate on the impact of the bullet found.

In the video, Najib explains the shooter did not aim at the window which would have caused the glass to break. Instead, it was a shot taken just next to the windowpane; he says.

The police did not find out who the shooter was.
