HOUSTON, TEXAS: Min Woo Lee won his first Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour title at the Houston Open, overcoming challenges from his opponents and joining the exclusive club afterwards.
The 26-year-old athlete ended the game with a 20-under 260 after four rounds, breaking the tournament record by four shots. He then celebrated his win through a video chat with his sister, Minjee Lee, who is a two-time major winner on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour. With this win, the siblings are now the third brother-sister pair to win on both the PGA and LPGA Tours.
Lee was leading the competition by five shots on the back nine. However, Gary Woodland played stronger, as did top golfer Scottie Scheffler, who made the game even more challenging by making four straight birdies.
Despite Lee bogeying the 16th hole after hitting into the water, he stayed composed and determined, finishing two pars to keep his one-shot lead. He then made a short putt on the final hole and claimed his victory.
Lee expressed: “It’s hard—it’s really hard… Obviously, Scottie is a wonderful golfer, and he keeps you on your toes. The first time being in front, I’m glad I got it done. I’m very exhausted. It was a lot of mental grind. I’m so proud of how I handled myself.”
