The controversial Malaysian rapper Namewee is under investigation by the authorities for a Chinese New Year video.
The police said the video, themed ‘Like A Dog’ allegedly violating the sensitivities in Malaysia.
In the video, the singer and dancers wearing dog masks are seen dancing suggestively in the vicinity of the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya, with the video featuring the Putra Perdana Building which houses the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya in the backdrop.
The video has over 728,000 views so far on YouTube, with comments that it was ‘terbaik’ or an excellent video!
The video starts with two ‘dog dancers’ in explicit position (suggestion of doggy-style sex) and it ends with a dancer suggesting oral sex.
The video has the “Age-restriction” guidelines and has 14,000 likes, 1000 dislikes.
The dog theme in the video was in conjunction with the Chinese Year of the Dog.
Malaysia’s Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said “an investigation paper” has been opened on rapper Namewee’s video clip which allegedly rode roughshod over the sensitivities of the multi-racial society in the country.
He said on Sunday (Feb 18) that the Royal Malaysian Police was working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate the controversial video clip under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
According to the Star, the police chief added that the singer was not known to be in the country.
