The Independent Singapore (TISG) published an article on 20 June titled ‘$39.90 per movie ticket? Rajinikanth movie Kabali set to make history in Singapore‘. The article had quoted a post of Facebook user Balasubramaniam Veerapan and asked if Tamil film moviegoers would bite at such a hefty ticket price tag.

It is understandable why the Facebook user had thought that it was the ticket price of the popular Tamil movie which will be screened here soon.
We updated the article a few hours later with a clarification from Rex Cinemas that the price highlighted by the Facebook user is the price of a statue of Rajinikanth that they selling, and that it is not the price of the movie ticket. Rex Cinemas also said that it will only announce the ticket price after the release date is confirmed.
Prior to the update which was made five hours later, several of our readers pointed out to us that the Facebook user was mistaken, and that the price indicated in the poster at Rex Cinemas is the price of a figurine that they were selling.
One reader however, went overboard and threatened our lead editor with violence. And she did that about 3 hours after the update was made to our article.
TISG does not take such threats against our writers and editors lightly. We are considering if we should lodge a police report against Rayni Kohilavaani.
