SDP’s Chee Soon Juan calls for S’poreans to help them “fight the giant”

In what seems to be another David and Goliath rhetoric, secretary-general of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) Dr Chee Soon Juan called for the people of Singapore to support them.

He wrote, “Help us fight the giant”.

“We’re not just contesting the PAP in the GE, we’re fighting the entire state machinery. Think of the resources at its disposal”, Dr Chee urged.

Dr Chee’s call comes in line with the sale of the party’s manifesto, as a magazine.

Last week (September 16), the Singapore Democratic Party announced the upcoming launch of their party’s manifesto.

In their announcement, the party explained, “A political manifesto is a declaration of a party’s vision and mission, a pronouncement of its plans and policies. This is exactly the purpose of this important publication – a signal of the SDP’s intent to change Singapore for the better”.

Earlier in September, the party also unveiled its revamped website, in preparation for the next General Election (GE).

Last month, the SDP became the first opposition party to identify the constituencies it plans to contest in the next GE and announced that it plans to contest Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, Bukit Batok SMC, Bukit Panjang SMC and Yuhua SMC – the same wards that it contested in the 2015 GE.

On September 4, the Government announced that the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC) had been convened. The formation of the EBRC – which reviews the boundaries of the electoral map – precedes the calling of the next GE.

However, the EBRC’s report could prove a game-changer for the SDP as redrawn boundaries could mean an overall change in their strategies, and wards they intend to contest in.

The SDP is also expected to organise it’s first pre-election rally sometime next month. -/TISG
