Sia plane wing ‘makes contact’ with another aircraft on ground; flight cancelled

Singapore – A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight from San Francisco to Singapore was cancelled on Wednesday (Nov 3) due to the plane’s wing making contact with another aircraft while on the ground.

Flight SQ33 was scheduled to depart at 9:50 pm local time on Wednesday (12:50 pm on Thursday, Singapore time) from San Francisco for Singapore.

According to global flight tracking service Flightradar24, the plane left and returned to its gate between 9:39 pm and 10:27 pm.

“On Wednesday, Nov 3, 2021, the wing of a Singapore Airlines Airbus A350-900 aircraft that was taxiing for departure from San Francisco International Airport made contact with another aircraft on the ground,” a SIA representative told Channel News Asia.

“The SIA A350-900 returned safely to the gate for inspections, and there were no injuries to the crew or the passengers on board the aircraft.”

Reports noted that the flight was cancelled to allow for engineer inspections on the aircraft.

After the incident, passengers affected by the cancellation were given assistance such as overnight hotel stays and re-accommodating them on the next flight scheduled on Thursday at 9:50 pm local time.

“Singapore Airlines would like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused,” said the representative. The company noted that it was unable to provide further details as investigations into the incident are ongoing./TISG
