Singapore in the top 10 lists of safest cities to visit for millennials, mature travelers, and families

SINGAPORE: Many people from different walks of life who consider safety to be a top priority when they travel would do well to put Singapore on their bucket lists, based on Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP)’s yearly State of Travel Insurance Safest Destinations report.

The report considers several safety concerns, including terrorism, weather emergencies, health measures and the safety of underrepresented groups. Over the past few years, the list of safest destinations has shifted from primarily Scandinavian and Northern European nations to Asian and South American cities.

Honolulu is the top city on the list, followed by Montreal, Reykjavik, Sydney, and Amsterdam in second to fifth place. The only Asian cities to make the top fifteen are Seoul (9th) and Tokyo (11th).

Although Singapore did not make the top 15 list, it is included in several other lists when broken down into categories.

For example, the city-state ranks fourth among millennial travellers, those aged 25 to 44, who are likely to venture further afield than other age groups. Seoul took the top spot for this demographic, and Dubai is notably included in sixth place.

Singapore also ranked 10th on the list of safest cities for mature travellers, dominated by European cities. Interestingly, Beijing also made the list, coming in at number seven.

The report’s authors say Asian cities appear popular with parents, who find destinations on the continent safe. No wonder Seoul also took first place. Tokyo came in sixth, Singapore eighth, and Hong Kong ninth.

Singapore did not make the top ten in the category of safest cities for Women, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) Travellers. Honolulu again took the top spot on this list.

Last month, the French hospitality company Accor’s 2025 Travel Trend Report ranked Singapore second among the top 20 trending destinations, behind New York City. Moreover, the city-state is the only Southeast Asian locale in the top 20.

Based on three categories—search trend score, media trend score, and 2025 trending destination score, the Big Apple received 97.58, while the Little Red Dot did not lag far behind, getting a score of 96.58. /TISG
