Singapore tops in Asia Pacific’s survey of safe countries for women

Singapore and New Zealand came in as the top two safest places for women in the Asia Pacific respectively.

ValueChampion facilitated the research, analyzing different factors such as safety, healthcare, and opportunities for women in 14 Asia-Pacific nations.

Singapore and New Zealand showcased exceptional healthcare, safety, and opportunity resources. Australia, Japan, and Taiwan came in next in terms of safest locations in the region.

Malaysia ranked 10th place among 14 countries. When it comes to women’s welfare, Malaysia has yet to improve its state programmes relating to healthcare and overall opportunities.

The last four countries were China, the Philippines, Indonesia, and India, respectively.

Based on the study, the last three countries were recognised as the riskiest locations for women. These countries were seen as unable to provide competitive access to healthcare with sloppy legislation on ensuring women’s safety, and poor resources to family planning and the presence of gender inequality.

The research put emphasis on three main indicators such as safety (highest rating), healthcare, and related opportunities enjoyed by women.

The safety ranking evaluates the legal practices and quality of life in a nation. Aside from employing global indices like the Human Development Index and the Global Peace Index, the study took into consideration legal protection against general crimes committed against women. These include sexual harassment, marital rape, and domestic violence.

The healthcare indicator looks into the women’s access to medical resources and the options available for family planning.

The opportunity factor considers women’s access to education and available jobs. The study examined family planning laws for 14 countries, including legislation regarding abortion, contraception, and access to sexual education laws.

Other issues involve infant and maternal mortality rates, state healthcare overall spending, and population life expectancy.

Also, the opportunity ranking analysed the female employment rate, along with literacy and average years of educational attainment. This includes the nation’s salary gap based on gross national income per capita.

Japan, which has always been noted as the safest country in the world, is ranked fourth in the recent study.

The great healthcare and low crime rates in Japan are the reasons for it being one of the safest nations in the Asia Pacific for women.

However, despite women live healthy and fulfilling lives, the country does have several unreported sexual assaults and discrimination records.
