A member of the public took to social media to highlight their neighbour’s disruptive behaviour in hopes of finding a solution.
“I’m not sure if I can help my neighbours this way but believe it or not, even the Singapore Police Force can’t do anything, and Housing and Development Board (HDB) also wash hands of everything,” wrote Facebook page Complaint Singapore member Syafiq Sadiq on Wednesday (June 22).
According to Mr Sadiq, who’s been living in an HDB block in Tampines for several years, their neighbour living in the corner unit liked to walk around naked.
“This old man has psychologically assaulted his neighbours by appearing nude at his doorstep in full view of the female neighbours across,” he said.
Furthermore, the same neighbour would allegedly “blast his radio till max volume for most of the day.”
Mr Sadiq said, “Mind you, this happened during Covid, and my pregnant neighbour was not only working from home but was a hero for putting up with his nonsense for years).
The concerned individual then wondered why nothing was being done to protect residents from “neighbours from hell”.
“I am unsure why our laws are protecting such individuals. I’ve seen instances of monsters from other neighbourhoods allowed to torment their neighbours continuously year in and year out and have yet to be dealt with,” said Mr Sadiq.
“It’s 2022, why haven’t the laws been amended to protect people from such monsters.”
Members from the online community shared similar experiences, such as one neighbour “hammering from a home workshop for 11 years” or another who “loved to shout in the middle of the night.”
Others also noted that Mr Sadiq and the other residents could file a police report, contact the IMH (Institute of Mental Health) or MSF (Ministry of Social and Family Development), or press charges.
“Please write to MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs), attention to Shanmugam,” added Facebook user Nana Eonni.
