Think About This, Parents

Peter Foster, writing in The Guardian, has this advice for parents: “If the report Dancing With Robots from the Third Way think tank is correct, being solid at Mathematics and English is probably not going to be enough. Computers will have gobbled even most mid-level jobs, leaving an oversupply of medium-educated people chasing an insufficient number of moderately-paid positions.

In this world, to prosper, you need to have skills the competitors cannot replicate — be a Premier League footballer, an artist, designer, politician, lobbyist, advertising creative, celebrity architect or that MBA with a PowerPoint presentation explaining to the worker bees how they are going to produce more honey, for less money.

“But fail to win a spot in one of those lifeboats — and this is true whether you are a Chinese or American — and the road ahead looks pretty tough these days.”
