Two fire extinguishers not enough – car goes up in flames at CTE

A car went up in flames in the CTE tunnel towards AYE over the weekend. The fire, which caused smoke to arise from the tunnel exit, also caused two explosion sounds that could reportedly be heard from those on an overhead bridge near the Havelock Road exit.

In the video, the two occupants appear to safely exit the car without injury. One occupant tries to put the flames out with a fire extinguisher when a good samaritan runs forward to offer a second fire extinguisher.

Unfortunately, two extinguishers were not enough to control the raging fire, which was later extinguished by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) using a water jet. The SCDF had also dispatched one fire engine, two fire bikes, three red rhinos, one ambulance and two support vehicles to the scene, after receiving a call for assistance at 6pm on Saturday.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Late last month, another vehicle erupted into flames when it hit a road divider near Changi, at Airport Boulevard.

While no one was injured in this incidents, all four occupants of the car which caught fire last month suffered minor injuries and were conveyed to Changi General Hospital.
