Unfinished Highway Structure on PIE collapsed and killed Chinese Migrant Worker

An incomplete viaduct collapsed this morning near the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) exit to Tampines Expressway (TPE), killing one Chinese migrant worker and injuring 10 others.

The Chinese foreign labourer, Mr Chen Yinchuan, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) , while 10 others, including other workers from China and Bangladesh, have been sent to Changi General Hospital.

Following the accident, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has said that workers from Or Kim Peow Contractors Pte Ltd were casting decking for the new viaduct when part of the structure between two piers gave way.

LTA is checking all other work sites, as a precaution.

SCDF was apparently alerted to the collapse of what appeared to be a 5 metres high structure around 3.35am. Other foreign labourers also hurried to the scene from their dormitories after hearing about the incident.
