‘We are all disappointed…I’ll do many other things’, Tan Cheng Bock

Dr Tan Cheng Bock has spoken to the media for the first time since parliament passed the Amendment Bill to amend the Constitution. The amendment paves the way for a Malay candidate to be elected as the next President of Singapore, effectively disqualifying the 76-year-old Dr Tan.

In Speaking to Yahoo Singapore’s question if he was disappointed by the recent development, Dr Tan said: “Disappointed, we’ll all be disappointed because what you want to do, you cannot do. But don’t let that be a dampener in your life. Life must go on, and I think very likely, I will do many other things.”

Dr Tan added: “I think you will hear a lot from me. Because you love this place, and you want to do what is best for the country, in whatever position you take.”

In assuring his supporters and well-wishers that he would give a “proper account” of his thoughts on the changes to the Elected Presidency in due course, Dr Tan said that he aspired to be the Elected President because he wanted to see certain changes.

“But if I can’t get that, if I cannot be, life still goes on. So just watch for all my programmes. I am never short of work. There are always plenty of things to do.”
