The mother of an 11-year-old girl made a police report after her child was allegedly forced out of a Gojek car and had vulgarities hurled at her by the driver.
The girl had apparently boarded the car with a pet bird in its cage.
The child’s mother, known as Joyce, had lodged a police report over the incident, while her aunt put up a Facebook post.
According to screenshots of the police report that were shared online, the incident took place on October 13 at 8:30pm. The Gojek ride was supposed to be from Sengkang to Ang Mo Kio, and it was booked by the child’s mother.
After boarding at 8.30pm, the child had reportedly arrived home at 8.45pm only to tell Joyce that the driver had forced her out of the car, as she was carrying a pet bird in its cage. When the passenger requested that she be let off at her pick-up point, the driver had reportedly refused.
After the child had arrived home, the app had still shown that the driver was still travelling towards its destination. The child’s mother then called the driver, known as Lee, to “enquire further”.
Lee allegedly got upset and started spewing vulgarities at her, before cancelling the trip.
According to the child’s aunt’s now-deleted social media post, the girl had no money or phone with her when she was forced to alight from the vehicle.
In her police report, the girl’s mother said, “I wish to state that my daughter is in a (sic) shock and there is no visible injuries on her. I am lodging this report as I wish to pursue the matter”.
According to a media statement, Gojek has said, “At Gojek, the safety and well-being of our riders and driver-partners is our top priority. We looked into this case as soon as it was brought to our attention and we will fully cooperate with all parties involved to resolve the matter. As investigations are ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”
